A lot of science is still done by amateur observers using backyard telescopes and binoculars - even the unaided eye! In this workshop, you ll get an introduction to scientific observing and learn about some science projects you can start tonight with your binoculars or small telescope.

This one-evening course provides everything you need to learn the constellations and find your way around the sky. You'll learn to identify the most important constellations in the night sky, and how to use them to locate star clusters, nebulae, and galaxies you can see with the unaided eye or binoculars. We'll help you demystify the motions of the night sky by explaining the patterns or cycles that make it all work.

You ve got your first telescope - now what? In this course, you ll learn how to make your telescope work for you. We ll highlight the five most common telescope issues people have and how you can solve them easily, with no further expenses. Discover what all those numbers on the eyepieces mean, and what those accessories do.

Taking place over four session, the workshop will also include a behind the scene experience that will allow you to view some of the Manitoba Museum s collection of mukluks and other footwear, with an artifact showcase and talk by Dr. Amelia Fay, Curator of the HBC Collection.
